Hybrid Car
Project Description: We had a total of five build days to make an energy efficient car with an alternative energy (not chemical or nuclear). The goal was for the car to move five meters while carrying 250 grams. Then, after tweaking the car to function properly, we made a presentation to propose our prototype to “Hyundai” aka Mr. Williams.
We chose to build a car powered by the elastic energy stored in a rubber band. The rubber band is attached to the front of the car and stretched to loop around a hook on the axle of the back wheels. The wheels are rotated backwards to wind up the car, stretching the band even further. When the car is set loose, the rubber band contracts and pushes the axle forwards, rotating the wheels and propelling the car across the floor. The band slides off of the hook after about three meters, allowing it to stop at the five meter mark. Click the play button below to see the Tricicar in motion, or check out the presentation to learn more about Tricicar, the car that cares!
