Secretary of the Future
Project Description: This project is meant to teach us the importance of thinking ahead before acting. A policy change, no matter how small, will have an impact on the environment over time. We were given 10 work days to plan a policy change and determine the level of impact it would have on the surrounding environment. My group's policy change is an event area near San Marin High. It would be used for hosting school fundraisers, for renting out to earn money for NUSD, as a lunch area for high school students with sandwiches from Harvest Market, and as a quiet place to do homework after school.
We predicted a few small changes in the environment over time:
1. an increase in squirrel and raccoon population due to food scraps
2. more trash
3. more pollution due to barbecues -- climate slightly warmer
4. less plants due to asphalt parking lot
5. animals will become more accustomed to humans
